This week I did idioms and had a lot of fun working with this assignment even though I put if off for like 2 or 3 weeks. I re-tried stop motion again and I succeeded. Last time I felt like a failed but I learned how to do it. I tried it again this week and I felt great about it. I used a tripod and that seriously made all the difference. Also for the one “knock on wood” I used the strobes that my photo teacher lent me. Working with lighting is a totally legit talent. I am going to be doing a lot of projects with use of strobes and flash photography. Actually my brother, Scott, was my inspiration on this project because he is super good at having a photo tell a story. His website is sturgesphotography.com check it out. Well hear are this weeks photos:

This last week I shot the Idaho Cross Country Regionals at the Coeur d’Alene Casino’s Circling Raven Golf Course. Twitchell, I know you want me to do Idioms, and I am working on that today, do not worry. It WILL be my next post count on it. But anyways, I learned a ton from this. I kind of walked on to the course not really knowing what to expect. I just watched some of the schools worming up, taking photos of them, to get my aperture, exposure and ISO dialed. Which was a good thing because if I had just started taking photos of kids running and had no idea what shutter speed to be shooting at, it could have been a little bit of a waste. Now after shooting a cross country meet, I totally know what to do now. Thanks to a fellow photographer (s6photoblog.blogspot.com) he lent me his canon 70-200mm IS ƒ/2.8 L which was super rad, thanks man! It sure was sick shooting with that high quality of a lens. The photos were so crisp and clear, I was pretty stoked. During the race, I had spectators just eying my gear and quite a few of them kept coming up to me and talking with me about my camera. I sure felt like a professional ha. This was seriously a significant boost in my photography because I really stepped out of my comfort zone of just shooting skating, portraits, fixing, ect. It was a totally foreign thing for me and I learned better angles, better exposures and all that good stuff. The photos didn’t turn out exceptional but I plan on doing this again and next time they should turn out better looking. My inspiration was actually this guy I had met at Iron Man CDA last year who I really dig his work. I do not remember his name, but he gave me his card and his web site is www.triathlonshots.com but anyways he has some great stuff on there. I think that there are multiple photographers on the site, but they have some great stuff on there. There is a section called photo tips and they are really good. Well here are the photos:

I love working with studio photography. Experimenting new things with the strobes, backdrops, props, how the shadow looks. Its a blast and Im thankful to have a studio at my high school. This last week I upgraded. NEW CAMERA BABY!! Pretty much pumped on that right now. But on to the photos, for these photos, had the lighting on is some different spots. I first tried having the strobe above the backdrop shooting down, that didn’t work out super well. Next spot, under Brandon’s chair was pretty interesting, it gave the photo a pretty strong lighting balance. I used that for a while. I have a photo of the set up also so that is a helpful demonstration. With this assignment I tried to show the fun of portraits. Seriously, portraits are the most fun thing, it is a blast working with people. But studio photography is more of a challenge for me, maybe it is just struggle with lighting, not sure. But I still enjoy it a lot. I think it was a ton of fun working with the strobes in crazy places. An inspiration of mine was David Nightengale. Here is his site: http://www.chromasia.com/ Here are this weeks shots:

I worked on color this week for a photo assignment. There are two of these photos that I really like because of the difference of colors shown. They really show the changing colors of fall and gee, fall is sure beautiful. Also for my other photos I did one of a dishwasher. Has anyone seen those fridge shots where they set the camera in the fridge and take the photo? Well i kinda changed that up, I put the camera in the dishwasher (sketchey, I know) and self timed it. I think it turned out pretty legit. I always try to put my style out there and make it my own and not copy others with my work. Photography is truly a hobby/profession that gets people worked up when others copy their work. Back to this whole color stuff, I’m not sure what it is about color, but I really do not like taking color photos. Not sure why, but I just strongly dislike it. I think that color is so over done and so easy to mess up on (for me at least) But black and white is just a lot more fun. For these photos I really spent a ton of time on them and truly put my effort in all of these photos. Please observe and enjoy:

Weather can change the whole photography scene. This last week I have done my project on black and white. My teacher wants our class to do a Color Post, but I am doing the absence of color. I love black and white, it shows a significant amount of emotion. Lot’s of people are like “Black and White is so sad” I don’t think it is sad, but in this instance it is. Through these photos I’m trying to release my emotions in my life. I have toned the blacks a lot and that expresses my feelings. I have an inspiration was Dave Beckerman www.beckermanphoto.com. Not trying to be an emo kid but when something needs to be expressed, I use my camera. Please look at these photos and tell me what you think, feed back is greatly appreciated.
