Richard Avedon Photos

This week I worked on photos in the style that Richard Avedon shot it. He shot his photos in such a way that he got 100% true emotion. He didn’t pose people or use props, but I did in some of them. I was going for the same type of photos he shot, but kind of twisted them into a way that the viewer would see my style also. I got some of what I was going for but then on some of them are pretty straight up average and some are pretty distinctively Avedon’s style and mine also. There were some photos That I shot that the subjects where wearing a greyish color of sweater or shirt so I didn’t use these because they didn’t turn out how I wanted them to and I really didn’t think that they were blog-worthy. The reason why they didn’t turn out how I would have liked them to is how I had the lighting set up. One side of the subject is a little blown out due to having the strobe power turned up too high. But witha black shirt or another dark color I wasn’t seeing this as much. With the grey colored sweatshirt it is quite distracting because you can not see the definition of the persons face and you can’t see the outline of an arm. So the photo turned out very washed out. I know what to do next time for sure. My inspiration was obviously Richard Avedon.

Avedon

The video was super interesting. I really enjoyed learning about the photographer who basically ruled at fashion photography. Avedon’s movie showed that hardships he had and all the struggles he had. The guy seemed like a sweet man and his work is absolutely amazing. He really shows the true expressions of someone.

This photo that Avedon took is sweet. Seriously the photo looks like she is between the smiling and frowning face right as she is changing it. It shows her true colors.

This one is just straight up goofy. The guy is obviously into snakes. I Think avedon is trying to tell us through this shot is dang, this guy is gnarly for the snakes.

Wow, this is defining fashion photography. The lady is just totally modeling for some company. And at the time, cigarettes where the total hype. Everybody smoked. It was the thing at the time. Now they all regret it.

This is my favorite. its so sick how he has got bees all over him. It totally shows how much fear he has. The dude is freaking out in his mind but can only show his fear through his eyes. If he moves at all, he is gone. It would be so crazy to be in both avedons situation and the other guys place. it would suck.

Wild Wood

Helena, MT. This last weekend I took over to Helena, Montana to ride in the rail jam at the Great Divide called Wild Wood. There were a ton of kids just getting so gnarly there it was super sick to see. With the guys that I went over with, we had a ton of fun just messing around in the car ride over and what not. The riding conditions were pretty icy but it was still super worth it. About half way through the Jam, I busted out the camera gear and started shoot. Thanks to a fellow photographer and friend Essex Prescott (http://s6photoblog.blogspot.com/) I got to use his fish eye which was super fun and I’m thankful for him letting me borrow that. I was shooting with a flash the whole time which was also really good practice for my photography. This weekend shooting was sick because I was trying way different angles than the other photogs there. I wasn’t really trying to get anything super awesome but when I was on the trip back, I was pretty amazed on how some of the shots turned out. There are a lot of them, but here are the photos:

Seriously it sounds like a sick job. But also it seems super hectic. The stuff you get to see is so awesome but the stuff you have to go though? Dang, thats a tough decision. Like that one disease thing that he got from that fly, wow that would be so gnarly. Like going through chemotherapy for a dang bug bite would be so crazy, just to get a shot of a pig. But think of the stories you would have to tell and the photos to share with others. Dang thats all I have to say.
