Final: Silhouettes
Posted by Scott SturgesJan 28
For my final project I have done silhouettes. Silhouettes are probably some of the most powerful photos along with black and white photos. They really share a lot of emotion and a deeper story than the normal photos. Silhouettes are very graphic and are very symbolic, they show the viewer the beauty in the shapes but with out the very fine detail, but still show textures. Silhouettes can bring many of different feelings to our complex minds, but with these eight photos I would like you to see more than the simple feelings. Through these photos, I have accomplished sharing beauty, contentedness, joy, pride and sorrow. All of these being feeling I have felt with in the last few months.
I have spent lots of time on these photos and hope to really reach people with them. This has been one of the most challenging, yet one of the most exciting photo projects. I have spent the past month trying to get these photos and trying to get them perfect to their full potential. I feel that with these photos I can really share the emotions I have been feeling this past month. With that being said, here are the photos. Enjoy:
With all these photos I have been dependent on the natural light. With the sunset on the lake photo, if I had done that one 5 minutes after, I would not have gotten nearly the same image that I did. Same with the bench photo of Scott. Silhouettes are so challenging to capture, but for most of these, I was in the right place, at the right time. I would like to give special thanks to Joey Ozol, Scott Sturges, and Zack Black for giving me the privilege to photograph them and let me share a little bit of my story through my eyes. Also a special thanks to Cole Barash, my inspiration for this whole project.
Thanks, for viewing,
-Steve

Wow. These are amazing pictures. You did a wonderful job. I really like the idea and I like the way they look. You did really well shooting and editing these. I think that maybe some of them are a little too dark like the last one but I think that overall, these are amazing.

Stephen these photos really turned out better then good. I’m really into these kind of pictures and they caught my eye immediately! I would say that my favorite is the silhouette of the kid on the bike… the lighting and the shadows are really intense. I can’t really think of anything bad to say…except maybe the ones of the sunset…the colors were a little too bright.
Other then that good job

You did an amazing job with the silhouette concept. They are definitely very powerful types of photographs, and also not the easiest to capture. The 6th picture down of the sunset really catches my eye for some reason, although it doesn’t have a person in it, it really draws me in. The 4th one down is a little difficult for me to get because the person is kind of blending in with the trees. Overall I really like all of these.

I think you did a great job.
You took something that you knew you could do well and you nearly perfected it.
Your strongest image is the one with the skis in the tunnel that you’ve shot before. You did a great job with that image.
I also enjoy the one that has the sun star because it makes the image all silhouette and then BAM happy.
I think you did a great job.
